Winter is extremely challenging.
As the weather gets colder, my chilblains started appearing all over my hands and fingers… It’s getting a lot worse now, but not quite as bad as it was last year… where every single finger is sore and painful with bumps.
Here is what works for me:
Last year, my beloved sister bought me a bottle of Emu Oil because she’s heard it’s really good for inflammation and arthritic pain. I’ve heard of it before too, when I was working at the nursing home, a few of my nannas swore by it.
Sis has also bought me the compression gloves on a different occasion, but for the same reason, she thought that it will help keep my hands and fingers warm. She saw my fingers turned white and blue during winter because of my Raynaud’s disease.
Every night before going to sleep, I put a small amount of emu oil and massage my hands lightly and then put the compression gloves on overnight.
The chilblain on my index finger (a little red dot) is a lot smaller after I have been using this for 3 days. I’m still working on that big one on the middle finger… haha. It will take time, but I am happy as long as it does not get worse.
I also found that I have to wear gloves whenever I wash the dishes and when I have to prepare food and know that I will constantly get my hands wet. I found that protecting my hands from getting wet from housework help me manage my chilblains from getting out of control.
It is quite annoying because I am not that type of person who used to wearing gloves. But, I will do anything to make things better for my body and to speed up the healing so I can do more stuff!!!
